Google Talk does not support the Last.fm scrobbler client. So how do you set the currently playing track on Last.fm as Gtalk status message? Here’s how you can do it using Foobar:
The solution involves 2 steps:
- Set up Foobar to play Last.fm radio.
- Set up Foobar to update the Google Talk’s status message with the currently playing music track.
For step 1, head over to the Play Last.fm radio from Foobar post I wrote earlier. It involves 2 plugins – one for Last.fm support and one for enabling the audioscrobbler feature.
Once you are done with step 1, go to my Show Current Music Track playing in Foobar as Gtalk status post and follow the steps explained there.
The Result:

Step 1’s Audioscrobbler plugin makes sure your Last.fm profile is updated as well.
Do post a comment below if you have any trouble implementing it. :)

Ok let’s break it down and see if the two modifications work individually.
1. Are you able to play Last.fm radio in Foobar?
2. Does the Gtalk status message update with the currently playing music track when you play an MP3 on your local system?

It’s most probably the 64bit OS that’s messing things up here. :’( Try running Foobar with WindowsXP 32 bit compatibility and let me know if that helps.
